Magento, always willing to support their ecommerce community, has announced the general availability of the newest Magento Commerce 2.3.3 as of October 8th, 2019. Merchants should be sure to upgrade as soon as possible to avoid any potential aberrations relating to compliance and optimization.
The update comes with boosts to overall security, performance, and quality of Magento Commerce software. These considerable enhancements will enable merchants to feel confident their site continues to run safely and securely.
Security and performance are ongoing sources of frustration in ecommerce. With rampant opportunities for fraud, and significant increases in site functionality and international traffic, the threats to ecommerce businesses continue to be a point of concern. Significant developments to both will help Magento merchants rest assured that their sites will not be compromised or broken.
“Supporting our merchants’ need for secure, high performing sites, the latest release of Magento Commerce software includes several security enhancements along with substantial performance improvements.”
Payments Services Directive 2 (PSD2), and EU directive drafted to remove banks’ exclusive access to customer data, will allow businesses and consumers to allow third-party services to retrieve account data from the bank. This is designed to create an integrated market for payments consisting of banks and payment service providers relied upon for ecommerce. To ensure this system is completely secure, all EU and UK merchants must comply with the Strong Customer Authentication (PSD2-SCA) component, requiring two of:
Something only the customer has (password or PIN)
Something only the customer knows (by phone or hardware token)
Something only the customer is (biometric authentication such as a fingerprint or facial recognition)
PHP 7.3 programming language support
Nearly 100 security issue fixes directly related to real reported issues, with ongoing backlog focus
Overhaul of load orders will lead to faster loading times by displaying text before webfonts, and shifting non-critical CSS items to the end
Google PageSpeed Insights score improved by up to 5 points
Continuous performance monitoring and enhancing
