5 top eCommerce podcasts to listen to in 2022

If you’re still not listening to eCommerce podcasts in the year of our lord 2022, what have you been doing with yourself?

The rise of podcasting as a media format in recent years has been meteoric. According to Statista, more than 424 million people across the world listen to podcasts, up from 274.8 million just three years ago.

The appeal of podcasts is obvious - convenience. They’re a way of consuming entertainment or information while keeping your hands and eyes free to do other things. Don’t have time to read or watch something? A podcast is a perfect solution, especially when it feels like we’re all busier than ever.

Just like any other form of media, you can get education or entertainment from a podcast depending on the format of the show and when it comes to eCommerce podcasts, you’re spoiled for choice. There’s everything from deep dives into tech, to personal success stories to quick-hit bites.

At this point, we’d be remiss not to mention that here at SmartOSC, we have our very own podcast! Commerce Talk with SmartOSC brings together some of the brightest minds in eCommerce to riff on trending topics in the industry, share their knowledge, have a few laughs, and provide you with some tips and tricks to take away and put to good use in your business.

You can find our podcast on Spotify, Apple, Google and everywhere else, or listen to the most recent episode here:

While we think our podcast is pretty good, we’re not all about self-promotion here, so it’s time to give some love to five of our favourite eCommerce podcasts.

1. eCommerceFuel

There’s a good reason eCommerceFuel always seems to top these lists and that’s because host Andrew Youderian runs a show that manages to stay both informative and conversational in tone.

With a new episode once a week, eCommerceFuel takes a well-worn but effective approach to podcasting, with guests brought on to speak about their area of expertise. This means the podcast covers a wide range of topics from the paid traffic landscape to building communities. This means that whatever your pain point right now, there’s probably an eCommerceFuel episode to get some advice from.

2. Add To Cart

Nathan Bush says he started the Add To Cart podcast because he loves “talking eCommerce with smart people” and with a desire to showcase the “many open and honest conversations” he was having with folks in the industry “that weren’t being reflected in the media”.

It’s safe to say that he’s achieved his goal of shining a light on what real eCommerce success looks like. The show manages to do that by featuring founders, leaders and specialists who have succeeded in eCommerce and simply having them tell their stories, with Bush playing the role of affable and inquisitive host with aplomb.

3. Marketing School

Alright, so this podcast isn’t exclusively about eCommerce, but it’s still well worth a listen for anyone in the industry. Hosted by Neil Patel and Eric Siu (you’ve probably come across the former’s website at some point, he’s that good at SEO), Marketing School is packed full of actionable marketing insights.

Marketing School is more interesting than regular school, we promise.

The episodes are less than 10 minutes long which makes them perfect for grabbing some quick, bitesize marketing insights. You might not be a marketer yourself, but it always helps to have a better understanding of what good marketing might look like for your business, and this podcast can help give you that insight.

4. Future Commerce

Who doesn’t want to know what the future holds? While ideally, this podcast would contain next week’s lottery numbers, Future Commerce isn’t actually in the prediction game, more like the manifestation game. In their words “Forget trying to predict the future. Shape your future.”

With a focus on retail, Future Commerce dives deep into research and media strategies in and around the eCommerce industry. While some episodes are more lighthearted than others, Future Commerce can be a little technical for the uninitiated, so this is one more for those with a bit of experience in eCommerce as opposed to beginners.

5. eCommerce MasterPlan

What’s the next step of your eCommerce masterplan? Probably not crashing a plane like the Batman villain Bane, but whatever it is, you could do worse than listen to eCommerce MasterPlan for some tips.

Hosted by Chole Thomas, eCommerce MasterPlan uses the expert interview format to provide ideas to support an online business, whether that’s by teaching you new techniques, coming up with customer acquisition strategies, or introducing new technologies. Chloe Thomas’s interview style is a real highlight of this show as her questions always seems to elicit an insightful response from her guests.
